So I was kind of cranky on New Year’s Even thanks to working about 9 1/2 hours and when I got home I just wanted to go to sleep and not partake of the festivities. Everyone got all hissy when I said I didn’t have resolutions, so I just left and went to bed and woke up slightly happier.
I don’t really like the word “resolution”. I don’t know why. I really don’t. I like the word “goal” better. So here are some goals I’m going to try to accomplish in the next year.
1. Exercise for at least half an hour five days a week.
I need to get into better shape and lose some weight. I was doing really well at the whole exercising thing over the summer and I lost about seventeen pounds, but things kind of went downhill when I moved out and didn’t have a treadmill anymore. I’ve got a workout DVD back, so hopefully I can use that and get somewhere, and get back to running over the summer.
2. Practice guitar for an hour a day five days a week.
You’d think this would be easy, but I get really distracted by other things. I love my guitar and I love playing it, but… the intention just kind of slips away. I’m actually going to put on my schedule “guitar practice times” so that I won’t forget about it. I want to get better and I want to be able to play well, and the only way that will happen is if I make an effort to practice.
3. Study Japanese.
Again, you’d think this would be easy, and with translations and classes I am getting somewhere, but when I’m doing my translations without trying to learn anything, I know a lot I could be learning and memorizing is slipping by and I’m not catching it. I want to go to Japan for an internship, and I want to be able to speak fluently, so I need to devote time to it. When I translate, I need to be paying attention to grammar patterns, vocabulary, idioms, etc., and try to learn how to integrate them. I’ll probably set aside time for just pure study (not academic or fun) on my schedule as well.
There we go. Three goals, and I have them written down somewhere they can’t be lost so I won’t forget.
Happy 2011, everyone.
